Universal Screener Notification

Students in Grades K-5 will be participating in the Beginning of the Year (BOY) DIBELs Universal Screener beginning on Monday, September 16, 2024.  The purpose of the screener is to identify potential reading difficulties in students.  Please find more information regarding the DIBELS Universal Screener here.

Measure of Academic Progress (MAP)

The MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) fall testing window for Grades 1-5 opens on Monday, September 16th.  The window runs from September 16th-October 17th.  You will find the testing schedule below.  This assessment is designed to measure student growth in math and reading, both during the school year and across multiple school years.

Each student will complete 1 day of reading testing and 1 day of math testing.  Chrome books will be provided for students for testing.  The MAP assessment allows teachers to see instructional strengths and needs for each student.  MAP is an adaptive test in which it adjusts based on the students’ answers to each question. The test gets more difficult as correct answers are given and easier as incorrect answers are given until an instructional match is found.

At the conclusion of the test, each student receives a RIT score that aligns to where they are instructionally based on this assessment.  MAP in conjunction with other measures throughout the school year helps teachers differentiate instruction within their classrooms.

Please contact Dr. Derek Lewis with questions @ derek_lewis@hcpss.org

The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is committed to providing a safe, engaging, and supportive school environment that fosters the social and emotional safety, dignity, and well-being of all students. HCPSS acknowledges the need for employees

It is an expectation that HCPSS employees will be responsive to all incidents of exclusion or physical restraint and appropriately case manage impacted students to minimize unsafe behaviors and maximize instructional engagement.
