Greetings TSES Families,

We are looking forward to another fantastic week of learning!  Please note that all HCPSS schools are closed for students on this Friday, October 20, 2023.

In this newsletter you will find:

Title I Parents Right to Know

The Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) contains several provisions which promote a parent/school partnership through communication. One such provision gives parents of students attending Title I schools the right to ask for and receive information about the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teachers.  The letters from our Superintendent explaining your rights can be found on the TSES website

Wear Orange on Thursday, October 19th to Celebrate Unity Day

On this optional spirit day, staff and students are invited to wear orange to show their active support for anti-bullying.

Every year  in October, a very special event comes around — the Day of Unity, or Unity Day, as it is commonly called.  This year Unity Day will be celebrated at TSES on October 19th. This is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month, also in October. The key message of this month, and this day, is to unite for kindness, courage, and inclusion, to prevent students from being bullied.  Get ready to help us celebrate!

Digital Citizenship Week

We are excited to announce the upcoming Digital Citizenship Week 2023 (October 16-20). This initiative aims at promoting responsible and safe online behavior among our students. In today's digital age, our students must develop the skills and awareness necessary to navigate the online world confidently. One critical improvement point is balancing screen time and offline activities. Encourage your children to set limits on their screen time, engage in physical activities, and enjoy face-to-face interactions with friends and family. Use conversation starters like, "What's your favorite non-screen activity?" or "Tell me about a positive online experience you had recently." Additionally, explore resources such as Common Sense Media's Family Media Agreement and ConnectSafely.org for valuable tips and guidelines to help create a healthy digital environment at home.

Young Authors Contest

Message from the TSES Health Room Flu clinic

Each year, the Howard County Public School System partners with the Maryland Partnership for Prevention to bring flu immunizations into our schools for students.  This year, they will also be offering the latest Covid vaccine.  The clinic at TSES will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023, during school hours.  If you would like your child to be vaccinated against the flu and/or Covid at this clinic, please register at this link.  You are not required to provide your child’s insurance information.  Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is safe to receive the flu and covid vaccine in the same day. If you have any concerns about the new Covid vaccine, you are advised to speak with your child’s pediatrician. All in-school clinics will be closed to registration one week before the clinic date to allow our health room staff time to review and prepare the consents and make sure enough vaccines are ordered.  If you have any questions, please call your school’s health room at (410) 313-6918.
